Greenpeace: Eat kangaroos to combat global warming

More kangaroos should be slaughtered and eaten to help save the world from global warming, environmental activists say.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this.

I'm guessing the kangaroos aren't all that happy about it!

The cows, however, are celebrating. :P

WTF??? Are they out of their minds???? I'll understand if they say eat less meat, or don't eat meat, but this is insane.

I think that should have read 'Kangaroos think more *humans* should be slaughtered to combat global warming'

At least that would make more sense.

No they are not out of their minds.
Kangaroos frequently grow to massive populations due to their adaptations to the climate in Australia, and then end up starving or having to be culled off.
They are not an endangered population (albeit some small species) and can become pests in many areas especially farms.
Kangaroo meat is also extremely tasty and doesn't destroy the environment.

What is bad about eating kangaroos? It's no worse than eating cows...

George you are a big hypocrite. This is exactly what you have been pushing on other people. You claim too many large mammals are farting us to global warming and you think those animals should be destroyed.

How about we just forget about all the animals and have people move to a new place to live if their city is flooded after the climate patterns change?

If you are going to eat meat, particularly in Australia, then Kangaroo meat makes a lot more sense than sheep or beef. The reasons are numerous and include, less damage to soils due to softer pads, naturally evolved to survive diseases and handle flys (unlike sheep), can survive the harsher conditions without suffering, taste better, their meat is leaner and healthier, not a vector for human affecting desease, need less feed and generally all round better animals than those bred up in the old world. If you don't want to eat meat then roo eating is not really your beef. ;-)

Not sure what Anonymous at 1.03am is on about. Born and raised in Melbourne and I eat kangaroo fairly regularly (four or five times a year), and emu/crocodile now and again (maybe once a year). You can even buy 'coat of arms' packs, consisting of kangaroo and emu steaks, in the supermarket meat sections these days. Kangaroo makes for a cracking meal.
