Over 150 human-animal hybrids grown in UK in past three years

Wow, the Daily Mail is reporting that over 150 human-animal hybrids have been grown in UK labs since 2008, the same year the Brits passed the Human Fertilisation Embryology Act allowing for this kind of research. For some reason these transgenic embryos have been produced secretively for the past three years.

Specifically, the scientists produced animal eggs fertilised by a human sperm, ‘cybrids’, in which a human nucleus is implanted into an animal cell, and ‘chimeras’, in which human cells are mixed with animal embryos.

The purpose of the research is to develop embryonic stem cells which can be used to treat a range of incurable illnesses.

It's worth noting that human-animal hybrids are also created in other countries, many of which have little or no regulation.

awesome.

the island of dr mureaux(sp?) is only a fantasy... the construct of a human mind where potential advancement of mankind is made to seem cruel and terrible... using emotional manipulation to hurt that which is beneficial to mankind

here's the ethical question at hand: remember, all things should be considered when dealing with logic; you don't get to postpone one aspect of logic while stating another

when trying to be ethical (benedfit mankind as a whole) which is more unethical:
NOT advancing mankind and getting rid of untold millions of issues

or

possibly bringing miserable creatures into this world that soon die that was necessary to cure the same thing happening to humans? (people born without brains, hearts, et al)

nature makes worse things ALL ON ITS OWN so why are we worried about making "monstrosities"

that's narrow-minded when not taken into account the "monstrosities" (unsettling-looking, unfunctional humans born daily)
